Lady Gaga was the most liked celebrity on Facebook during 2010, with more than 24.7 million people expressing approval for the Bad Romance singer.

Figures published by Facebook show that she beat Eminem to the title by around 800,000 likes.

Megan Fox, Vin Diesel and Rihanna completed the top five, with Barack Obama in sixth.

The identity of the most liked celebrity on Facebook will have come as little surprise to people who have followed Lady Gaga's meteoric rise to superstardom, as she has arguably harnessed the power of social networking sites as a promotional tool more effectively than any other star.

In July the Poker Face singer became the first living person to gain 10 million Facebook fans, narrowly beating President Obama to the landmark.

She also has the most followers on Twitter (7.5 million) and although she only has the 50th largest subscriber base on YouTube, Famecount.com names her as the world's top social network star.

Justin Bieber, who is the ninth most liked celebrity on Facebook and has the third largest Twitter following, is second on Famecount.com's list, ahead of President Obama.

Eminem, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are among the other stars to make the top ten.

The year-end accolades keep rolling in for Lady Gaga, who reportedly has the top-selling record wordwide this year with The Fame Monster.

According to German website Media Traffic, the Mother Monster sold a total of 5.8 million copies of her album across the globe.

Gaga beat out stiff competition from rapper Eminem, whose Recovery sold an estimated 5.7 million copies, and Justin Bieber, who moved 5.6 million copies of My World and My World 2.0.

She quickly took to Twitter to thank her fans after receiving the new earlier this week.

"THE FAME MONSTER was named the best-selling album of 2010!" she wrote. "I'm so excited for the future, believe + work hard, you will achieve your dreams."

The glam queen also confirmed that there will be more big news in the coming weeks. She has promised an announcement about her new album Born This Way on New Year's Day.

"Merry Christmas little monsters! I love you with all my heart," she wrote earlier this week. "My gift to you is a BORN THIS WAY announcement Midnight on NEW YEARS EVE."

According to The Sun, the 'Poker Face' singer travelled without her entourage and dressed casually when visiting Carl's childhood home for the first time.

A source said: "GaGa is used to the best hotel suites in the world but wanted to sleep with Luc in his old bed in the room he grew up in.

"The holidays are a special family time so she wanted to slot in without any fuss.

London, July 10 : Lady Gaga's manager Svengali Troy Carter insists that the singer's phenomenal success is the result of pure hard work.

Carter says his eccentric client has set an example of how hard work and hits can turn an expectant into a somebody, and he fears too many current acts break into the big time too quickly and fade out just as fast.

"She (Gaga) has put in the work. She has really put in the work. This was years in the making. Gaga has a work ethic. Gaga hustles. She understands all of that," the Daily Express quoted him as telling CelebrityAccess.com.

Lady Gaga is a man. Or at least, she poses as one in a new gender-bender fashion shoot. With her wardrobe of shocking outfits, she’s never been one to shy away from the outrageous.

But Lady Gaga seems to have managed to pull another fashion surprise out of her seemingly endless repertoire, by posing as a man.

A series of new photographs appear to show the controversial singer dressed in a series of suits and shirts, with her normally platinum hair gelled up in a dark quiff.

Gone are the usual extravagant costumes usually favoured by the star. In their place are sombre suits and conservative white shirts.

The photos were taken in London by renowned photographer Nick Knight and arranged by regular Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti.

They are set to appear in a men’s fashion editorial for the September issue of Vogue Hommes Japan.

Formichetti has also posted the images on her blog, but mysteriously lists the model's name as 'Jo Calderone.'

However, one of Gaga's biggest fans, blogger Perez Hilton appeared to acknowledge the images are of the star whom he jokingly refers to as 'my wife'.

On today's ever more open Web, to whom do you want to be closer? Is there someone for whom you wish to express your affection, your desire, or your admiration, perhaps in the hope of getting some in return?

May I give you just two choices? President Obama or Lady Gaga.

Perhaps you feel I am limiting you too much. But this is an issue of such importance, one that will show just what the world sees when it looks in the mirror.

On the one hand, we have someone who is trying to rectify so many wrongs. Someone who wants you to know that, yes, anyone can. On the other, we have Barack Obama, who is also trying to do the same thing.

Here's how things stand right now. (Though these things never really stand. They are a constant dance.) Barack Obama, president of the United States, has--as I touch the reactive parts of my MacBook Pro--9,116,672 fans on Facebook. Famed exhibitionist singer of gym music, Lady Gaga, has 9,152,517.

Why is this significant? Well, no one living has 10 million fans on Facebook. Not Justin Bieber. Not George W. Bush. Which means that this race is vital and might well be decided over the coming hours and days.

Should you not have examined the numbers very closely, Lady Gaga is winning.

You will either decide that this is a fair reflection of those who participate in a superficial medium in which they post pictures of their vacations, their excesses with libations and their babies with bongs.

Or you will decide that, because you tend to believe everything Mark Zuckerberg says, Facebook needs to be seen as a deeply important social movement, one that will eclipse all other forms of searching, communicating, or being.

Look at the candidates. One wishes to make energy renewable and health care available. The other expends energy without end and would dearly love to excite you to the degree that health care would be unavoidable.

But please don't let me influence you.

Of course, I understand that you could balance your rear end on the spikes of a fence and declare your fandom for both of these world figures.

But wouldn't that be like not declaring just where your ultimate respect, your ultimate love, your ultimate sense of style and wit lie? And wouldn't that be like allowing others to make the decision for you? You know, as you have so often done on voting day.

So, please, hotfoot it to Facebook, hotfinger your feelings, and may the winner be a worthy one.

Before working with Lady Gaga on the just-released "Alejandro," famed fashion photographer Steven Klein had never directed a proper music video. But after seeing Gaga perform live, he knew it was time to take the plunge.

"I went to see her show in NYC, and it felt like performance art in the '90s. And I had not seen anything like that in a while," Klein told MTV News in an e-mail. "Lady Gaga approached me about doing this particular song, and in the past, I have passed on such offers, but this time I felt [a] narrative drive you could make interesting, and we both aligned on the vision for the film."

Working closely with Gaga, the two created an eight-minute-plus, darkly surreal epic that draws equally from Madonna and Marlene Dietrich (to name just a few). Of course, given that Gaga and Klein are among the hottest names in their respective fields, getting together to plan "Alejandro" was difficult — and actually shooting it was nearly impossible.

"I had a vision and story for the film, she reacted to it, then we both collaborated ... We shot in Los Angeles on April 30, 2010," Klein wrote. "My schedule and hers are both complicated, so it took a lot to get the days that we both could work together."

Now that the "Alejandro" video has been unleashed on the world, we figured we'd ask Klein to reveal what inspired the clip ... or, at least explain what the heck it's all about.

"I was not thinking in terms of influences. I saw it more as a combination of cinema and theater," Klein wrote. "[It is] about a woman's desire to resurrect a dead love and who can not face the brutality of her present situation. The pain of living without your true love."

Earlier today, the highly anticipated video for Lady Gaga’s latest single, “Alejandro,” premiered, much to the delight of fans from all over the world. As we were also saying, because of the images included in it, the video has great potential of causing a controversy – and it would seem that Katy Perry is leading the attack on it, as AceShowbiz can confirm.

The video features Lady Gaga surrounded only by male dancers who, in certain scenes, wear fishnet stockings and high heels. In others, Gaga is dressed in a plastic outfit that resembles a nun’s outfit, while another shot sees her swallowing a rosary, to mention just two of the things that are potentially controversial. It’s precisely this use of religious imagery that got Katy Perry all hot under the collar.

“Katy Perry is rumored to have taken aim at Lady Gaga. The ‘I Kissed a Girl’ hitmaker sparked such speculation after writing on Twitter, ‘Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.’ The fiancée of funnyman Russell Brand didn’t mention Gaga;s name on her post. However, people were quick to link the tweet to ‘Alejandro’ music video due to the fact that the newly-premiered clip features, among other Catholic imageries, a crucifix during a bed scene,” AceShowbiz writes.

Still, the e-zine says, if Perry is targeting Gaga, this would be a very clear case of pot calling the kettle black. “Aside from Katy Perry’s rumored jab at Lady GaGa, the two female singers actually have several things in common. [T]hey seem to have similar style when it comes to undergarments. Katy picks a pair of cannons that launch frosting to the camera for her bra in ‘California Gurls’ video, while Gaga opted for rifles to equip her own,” the report says.

Perry has remained mum on intensifying buzz that she dissed Gaga’s “Alejandro” video, as also has Gaga herself. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton, though, is convinced that the diss was real, saying on his Twitter that what is one’s blasphemy is another’s cannons shooting frosting, thus pointing out that one should never be so quick to judge others.

When it comes to her reaction to Fox’s broadcast of her American Idol performance Wednesday, Lady Gaga isn’t bothering putting on the p-p-p-p-p-poker face. She’s just straight up annoyed. The scene-stealing diva lashed out at Fox via Twitter, accusing the network of some shoddy editing work when it came to her much-heralded American Idol visit.

Lady Gaga performed her current hit "Alejandro", another song that has her repeating catchy little phrases over and over. "Ale-Alejandro/ Ale-Alejandro" has replaced "Roma-roma-mama" in the Pop-Culture Nonsense section of my brain, right next to Snookie's "waaaahhhhhh".

You've got to admire Lady Gaga, she's more interesting than Beyonce, more talented than Britney Spears, and freakier than Marilyn Manson. However, after her performance it was like the show came off a heavy acid trip and decided to soothe the hangover with a big band bonanza staring Harry Connick Jr.

Harry Connick Jr. not only performed a new cut off of his album ("And I Love Her" by the Beatles) but backed up the Idol's as they sang a medley of his songs, told a story about meeting Frank Sinatra, and also starred in his own montage video. Is this their way of telling us Harry Connick Jr. is Simon Cowell's replacement? Or maybe he was sent by Brian Dunkleman to destroy Ryan Seacrest? Either way, the man knows how to suck up precious airtime and I'm sure the Idol producer's are taking note.

Seeing Aaron Kelly go was no surprise. He seems like a nice enough kid, with a good voice, who just can't match up against the juggernaut power of Lee DewYze and Crystal Bowersox at this point. The Top 4 is one of the strongest in awhile, so here's hoping for a finish that's at least half as interesting as Lady Gaga's thing for men from South of the Border. "Ale-Alejandro/ Ale-Alejandro".

According to reports Gaga dropped the bombshell on Wednesday, on MTV.

Then came the blogs, Tweets and photoshopped images of Gaga with a fake leg – and to think, some people still didn’t believe the rumours.

One site who didn’t was E!, who contacted Gaga’s label and eventually received a reply saying that the rumours were “not true”.

Lady Gaga has denied the recent reports that she is considering having some cosmetic procedures to change her look. The story had stated that Lady Gaga had been depressed and was considering plastic surgery as a way to lift her mood. It was said that she would be looking into plastic surgery for multiple different areas of the body.

A rep for Lady Gaga has “categorically denied” the previous reports that the singer was considering these procedures. The tabloids claimed that Lady Gaga was considering a nose job and breast implants.

Lady Gaga first came into the public view in 2008 when she released her first single and subsequent album, “The Fame.” Since then, Gaga has had a long list of different hits that has kept the rising star near the top of the Billboard charts throughout her short career. The self proclaimed "pop-conquistador" tweeted the following late Friday evening.

The 'tweet' was accompanied by a link to a video for Gaga's current single "Telephone"(below). The single, originally written for Britney Spears, features Beyonce as a guest vocalist, and appears on Lady Gaga's current album "The Fame Monster".

"Telephone" is Lady Gaga's sixth consecutive Top Ten hit in the US and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard's US Hot 100. The video, featuring the native New Yorker, was unveiled last month.

A Tennessee teen was sent home from Greenbrier High School to change his shirt, which sported the phrase, "I Heart Lady Gay Gay." The school's brass felt the shirt would cause a disruption among other students with its supposedly inflammatory statement.

The student, Cole Goforth, was asked to go forth and make a tee change and the teen's mom claimed that the school was in violation of the First Amendment with its request. When word of the incident made it back to Gaga, she tweeted: "Thank u for wearing your tee-shirt proud at school, you make me so proud, at the monsterball, you are an inspiration to us all. I love you." She also tweeted, "Been in the studio for days and hours of record after record, and when I hear that a little monster was discriminated against by teachers…It reminds me of my commitment + love for u, and the deep unconditional devotion I feel to write music that will deliberate you from prejudice." She also wrote, "I love you Cole, you just be yourself. You’re perfect the way God made you."

Looks like wearing a t-shirt can get you a direct message from the reigning queen of pop music. If I were you, I'd wear as many incensing t-shirts as possible so that it could be a conduit with which you can communicate with your favorite musician!

Anyone who’s heard of Lady Gaga knows the new high priestess of shock doesn’t hold back when it comes to fashion.

She’s met the Queen in a red PVC Elizabethan gimp dress, held press conferences in gigantic shoulder pads that could double as an airline chair, flourished capes made from skinned polar bears, writhed in nude body-stockings with gaffer-taped nipples (fashion is pain, people), sculpted her hair into telephones and, of course, sparked a no-pants craze with her trademark “underwear-as-outerwear” look.

With her bizarre style - masked face, overdone hair and make-up, gridiron shoulders - Gaga has emerged as a surprising muse for both the high street and haute couture.

Her space-age aesthetic has influenced designers such as Giorgio Armani, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci and Jean Paul Gaultier, while at the other of the scale outlets such as UK internet retailer Asos has attributed a 30 per cent rise in sales to Gaga-inspired lace party frocks, body suits and underwear.

While singers have long spearheaded the fusion of music and fashion, in just 15 months Gaga has in equal measure rocked the pop and fashion worlds in a way many have compared to pop’s original fashion wild child - Madonna.

In fact, she’s been been compared to the Material Girl so many times that she and Madonna did a skit together on Saturday Night Live: Gaga’s opening line was “Madonna? I’m totally hotter than you.” Madonna has said: “I see myself in her.”

Perhaps the Wall Street Journal nailed Gaga’s influence on pop and fashion when it said: “Gaga ... really understands
spectacle, fashion, shock, choreography - all the things Madonna and Michael Jackson were masters of in the 1980s.”

It’s fitting then, that Lady Gaga’s Melbourne show this week coincides with an exhibition of Madonna’s most iconic costumes as part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

The 30-piece collection at Chadstone includes the pink dress worn in the Material Girl video clip and the infamous gold conical bustier designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and worn by Madonna during her provocative 1990 Blonde Ambition tour.

“As stand-alone pieces, each of those costumes makes a comment on either class, gender, sexuality, race or just the power of the individual,” says Antonino Tati, editor of Cream magazine and self-confessed Madonna aficionado.

“These are really iconic because they’re so ingrained in the public’s mind and stand for so much in pop culture.”

Like Madonna, Gaga’s ambition is well-documented and she exerts a vice-like control over her image. While her outfits are largely the work of a team she calls “The Haus of Gaga”, she remains the creative force behind her aesthetic.

“I’m this way all the time,” she has said.

“I’m always dressed the way you see me in my videos and my performances. I live and breathe fashion, art and music. I was the girl who used to be made fun of in school because I was wearing some crazy outfit. For me, it’s not a costume; it’s not a look. Lady Gaga is me.”

It was only a matter of time before Gaga-inspired trends filtered down the high street, in admittedly diluted forms - no telephone hairpieces or polar bear capes - but rather in structured shoulders, lace body suits and leggings.

“She was the first one to really embrace those strong shapes, particularly those kind of Cube-esque shoulder pads. I see big shoulder pads and straight away I think, ooh very Gaga,” says Melbourne singer and designer Lee Lee from the
band Dirty Laundry.

“I see her as the love child of Bette Midler and Madonna, but even more out there. I like that her look is not just about being the beauty queen. It’s visually stimulating.”

Melbourne designer Alexi Freeman sees Gaga as a pop star of post-modern relevance.

“Like David Bowie in the ’70s, like Madonna in the ’80s, Lady Gaga is a real icon of fashion and where things are going,” he says.

“Admittedly, she does seem kind of insane, but I think she’s on a very creative journey. She is really on her own trip - in the beginning anyway, when she made her own outfits and did her own make-up, she was pursuing her own aesthetic. She’s genuinely expressing her own vision of what’s relevant now.”

Lady Gaga performs at Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday, and April 9, as part of her Monster’s Ball tour.

LADY GAGA is being sued for more than s20million by an ex-boyfriend who claims he co-wrote some of her hits.

Music producer Rob Fusari says the Bad Romance singer axed him after he helped to create the flamboyant persona that made her famous.

He alleges he came up with the name Lady Gaga and helped write Paparazzi and Disco Heaven.

Robert Meloni, a law yer for Fusari, said: "It's an age-old story in the music business. You become famous and you turn on the person who discovered you."

Fusari filed the suit in Manhattan Supreme Court, New York, this week. He claims a talent scout pal introduced Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, to him in March 2006.

He says he was initially disappointed when the singer arrived at his 150 Studios in New Jersey.

The suit reads: "Fusari was expecting someone a little more grunge-rocker than the young Italian girl 'guidette' who arrived at his doorstep and was worried that he had made a mistake."

But when he asked her to play one of her songs on the studio piano, he realised "within seconds" that Germanotta had star potential.

The suit continues: "The trick would be coaxing it out of her."

Fusari claims he was responsible for "radically reshaping her approach" over several months - and convincing her to add dance beats to her songs.

He said he came up with the name Lady Gaga after playing Queen's Radio Ga Ga for her every day when she entered the studio.

"One day, when Fusari addressed a text message to Germanotta under the moniker 'Radio Gaga', his phone's spell check converted 'Radio' to 'Lady'," the suit says. "Germanotta loved it and 'Lady Gaga' was born."

Fusari, who has producing credits on Destiny Child's Bootylicious, is seeking a 20 per cent cut from a 2006 contract he says he signed with Gaga's two companies, Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.

He claims to have received just one cheque, for about s140,000.

Fusari and Germanotta, 23, were at one time romantically linked but broke up in January 2007, the suit says.

In the introduction to the court papers, Fusari portrays Lady Gaga as "a woman scorned".

The suit says: "All business is personal. When those personal relationships evolve into romantic entanglements, any corresponding business relationship usually follows the same trajectory - so that when one crashes, they all burn."

The singer, who is currently in Australia, has previously said: "I was Gaga from the time that I was 19 through my first record deal.

"I always dressed like that before people knew me as Lady Gaga. I was always that way - I stuck out like a sore thumb."

Lady Gaga's lawyer said that an agreement at the heart of the legal battle was "unlawful".

Song writer and music producer Rob Fusari claims that he and the Grammy Award-winning performer formed a business partnership, in which he was entitled to 20 per cent of the business.

He said his protégé and former girlfriend, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, abandoned him and their partnership Team Love LLC as her career soared.

Mr Fusari claims that their business partnership entitles him to 20 per cent of her record deal.

He acknowledges that he has received $611,000 from her but says it is not his full share.

But Lady Gaga's lawyer Charles Ortner told that court that the agreement between the singer and the producer was "unlawful".

He said that Mr Fusari and his company violated statutes that prohibited them from "acting as employment agents without a license and charging Lady Gaga an unlawful fee for their purported services."

Mr Fusari's lawyer, Robert S. Meloni, called the claim "ludicrous".

"Fusari is a PARTNER in the Team Love LLC with Gag," Mr Meloni wrote.

"Rob was no more of an 'agent' for her than she is a Roman Catholic nun."

Lady Gaga won two Grammys in January: best dance recording, for "Poker Face," and best electronic or dance album for "The Fame."

A spokesman for Lady Gaga, who is on tour in Australia, declined to comment on the suit.

Lady Gaga's first concert in Britain on her revamped "Monster Ball" tour was hit with a string of setbacks after several costumes and parts of the set went missing and technical mishaps marred the show.

The "Poker Face" hitmaker wrapped up her dates in America last month and brought the tour to the U.K. with an all-new stage set and concept for the British gigs.

But the opening show in Manchester, England on Thursday night was hit with problems after key pieces of the stage, props and costumes failed to arrive at the MEN Arena venue in time.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Right up until the wire there was a mad panic. Gaga lived up to her name when she arrived to find half her costumes had not arrived and pieces of the set were missing. She has spent over a million pounds on this new stage show so she was furious that everything wasn't in place."

The singer took to the stage 40 minutes late and the show was marred by technical problems including missed lighting cues and an improperly balance sound mix, according to the BBC.

Lady Gaga will take the tour to Ireland this weekend before bringing the concerts back to Britain for nine more dates, ending in Nottingham, England on March 8.

She climbed atop a flaming piano, donned a Beetlejuice-esque striped bodysuit and unleashed a 40-foot multi-tentacled beast onstage. Yes, Lady Gaga arrived in Manchester, England, on Thursday night to kick off the European leg of her Monster Ball Tour, and the results were typically dazzling despite some technical snafus.

Gaga ran through 15 outfit changes, four acts and 19 songs — including "Just Dance," "LoveGame," "Dance in the Dark" and concluding with "Bad Romance" — in front of 23,000 screaming fans. The entire production had been put together in just four weeks.
"We were doing another show in the United States," the 23-year-old pop star said, according to the BBC. "But I got very bored, so I threw it away."

The quick turnaround time to build the show, however, led to a string of production malfunctions on opening night, from subpar sound mixing to missed lighting cues to the show wrapping up 30 minutes late.

Nonetheless, Gaga delivered. According to multiple reports, her outfits ranged from a tight one-piece bathing suit to a yellow hair-covered cape to an oversized red gown and matching red bonnet to a cotton candy-style wig. Other songs she performed included "Brown Eyes," "Alejandro," "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi."

From Manchester Gaga heads to Dublin on Saturday for a two-night stand. From there she'll swing through London and Birmingham before jetting off for dates in cities including Auckland, New Zealand, Sydney and Perth, Australia, and Osaka, Japan, in mid-April.

"The show is a musical, it's not just a pop show, there are lines and a score — there's a lot of music that you haven't heard before," Gaga said recently. "Some of it's very old, some of it's new, there are scores specifically for the show itself. The show's completely different and I have some really amazing surprises, and it's unlike anything I've done before."

They are said to have put the final touches on plans for the duet backstage at the Grammys on Sunday.

She'll perform during tonight's Grammy ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which ought to be a treat. Gaga, 23, has earned a reputation for scene-stealing turns in the spotlight.

Unfortunately, Cleveland isn't on the itinerary for her Monster Ball Tour, which made a stop earlier this month at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Even before she took the stage in front of 8,000 fans -- "my little monsters," Gaga called them -- for the first of two gigs there, the pre-concert people-watching was monstrously entertaining.

"We're going to get our Gaga before they get their Gaga!" a young female admirer gloated to her friends near the front of a long line outside the venue.

Inside, a never-ending parade of Gaga clones in designer-knockoff sunglasses, pink feather boas and fishnet stockings roamed the arena concourse. The glammed-out coalition's ranks included everyone from giddy teens to drag queens. There were wide-eyed children with parents in tow, too.

The object of their affection opened with "Dance in the Dark," a throbbing club anthem off her latest album, "The Fame Monster." Decked out in twinkling lights, Gaga evoked a Christmas lawn ornament come to life.

A few days later, Gaga postponed two shows and cancelled two others, reportedly because of exhaustion. She was none the worse for wear in Motown, though. Generally out-Madonna-ing Madonna at every turn while cavorting inside a giant hollowed-out television set, Gaga proved to be a triple threat:

Let's review the facts, shall we? Real name is Stefani Germanotta; stage name is a nod to the Queen oldie "Radio Gaga." Born and raised in New York City. Began taking piano lessons at 4 and later attended the Tisch School of the Arts. Before she became a superstar in her own right, wrote songs for other artists, including the Pussycat Dolls.

Then again, when you're talking about the queen of an ever-changing fantasy land of her own devising, facts are more or less beside the point.

"I hate the truth," Lady Gaga is fond of saying. "I prefer a giant dose of bullshit."

It could smell like victory tonight at the Grammys -- and beyond -- for one of the most intriguing pop-culture button-pushers in our midst at the moment.

As fans insist on a National Lady Gaga Day, Gaga herself (and her "360" record contract) defines the new standard for a modern-day music-industry success story.

Fans have been going gaga for her ever since her bloody performance of the hit song "Paparazzi" at MTV's Video Music Awards in September, where she was named Best New Artist.

And now, just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday night where she is nominated for five awards, dance/pop singer Lady Gaga has been granted her very own national holiday — sort of, anyway. What started as a goofy event page on Facebook marking National Lady Gaga Day now has over 100,000 followers, all of whom are honoring the singer with a day of emulation. According to the page, the "Night of Mayhem" is a day to celebrate your "inner freak."

"Dress like her, sing, dance, have themed parties, wear a Kermit the Frog jacket, ect. (sic) JUST HAVE FUN!" says the event page.

OK, so it isn't really National Lady Gaga Day, but according to the Wall Street Journal, the music industry could stand to learn a thing or two from Lady Gaga's "digital dominance, business savvy, niche-busting sound and 1,001 wardrobe changes" about how to build and maintain a fan base.

"Underneath Gaga's haystack wigs is a case study of what it takes to succeed in the music business today," writes WSJ's John Jurgensen. " [...] She is a product of a new kind of recording contract, which goes beyond just selling records to encompass everything from touring, merchandise — even her make-up deal. Though she writes her own material, she is as focused on visual theatrics, fashion, and global appeal as she is on the music."

Jurgensen goes on to list three major lessons to be learned from Gaga's success:

1. She's a Digital Phenomenon: Her debut album, "The Fame" generated four no. 1 songs, helping her to bring in massive digital sales, but much of her fan base got access her music for free and legally, says Jurgensen thanks to digital streams of her videos and music on sites like YouTube and MySpace, where she's had 321.5 million plays. That access, in Gaga's case, has translated into huge dividends in fan loyalty.

2. She's Got a 360-Degree View: Revenue losses in the digital age means record labels are going after money generated by artists outside of music sales in addition to their music revenues. The new model is what the industry calls the "360 deal" in which labels invest 100 percent up front for a cut of revenues from every aspect of the artist's business, including merchandising, which artists used to keep for themselves. Lady Gaga is one of the first major artists to have been launched under this model. A portion of her income from every concert she performs, to her deals with Polaroid, Estée Lauder's MAC and other corporate partners lands in Universal's Interscope Records' pockets.

3. She Could be the Next Madonna: Like Madonna, Gaga is a lover of the underbelly, making bold use of what Jurgensen calls "dark theatrics." She shape-shifting costumes and her playful use of language, such as referring to her fans as "monsters" have made her a hit in mainstream radio. She's a cross-over star who appeals to misfits in all spectra, including among gays, hipsters and boundary-pushing teens all with easy-to-sing lyrics, like "I want your ugly, I want your disease."

Basically, Gaga's got the full multimedia package, and these days, that's what it takes to get noticed.

The difference between big-budget musicals and blockbuster pop concerts has shrunk over the years, since shows like “Mamma Mia!” can seem like a loosely connected collection of songs, while music tours regularly package carefully constructed star personas inside elaborate stagecraft and a narrative frame. In her slick and seamlessly executed concert, Lady Gaga blurs the line even more, turning the conventions of pop stardom into a fully realized gothic musical that aims for the commercial sweet spot at the intersection of horror and romance. When done well, that mashup can produce blockbusters like “Twilight,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Thriller.”

Melding multimedia images with old-fashioned razzle-dazzle, Lady Gaga’s show (which runs through Sunday) manages to integrate theme, image and even some narrative seamlessly into one of the most engrossing dramatic spectacles in town. As a theater critic who has suffered through too many stale, pop-infused musicals, I suggest that Broadway would be smart to follow her lead.

Lady Gaga, a New York native who attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University before dropping out to pursue music full time, calls her fans her “little monsters.” At first it seems to be a term of affection, especially when she contorts her hand into a claw in a show of solidarity with her army of devotees, decked out in mirror-ball earrings and wielding glowing disco sticks. But when she flirts with her fans, expressing her love for them, the standard pop star clichés clash with the macabre story of the show, which acts out more of a dysfunctional relationship.

Her visual vocabulary marries high fashion to a fantasy fan’s aesthetic: Lady Gaga walking like a zombie, wearing scissorhands and even a suit of hair that looks as if it were stolen from the closet of Cousin Itt. In pairing spunky dance music with spooky images, Lady Gaga hints at pop music’s greatest exploitation of scary movies: Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” But while the monsters in that classic video are symbols of liberation, Lady Gaga projects something darker than girl power.

She casts fame (and her audience) as the looming threat in this story and herself as the scream queen, the perpetual victim. Her elaborate set pieces make a show of helplessness and vulnerability, boxing her slight, blond figure inside a glass cube in her propulsive hit “Just Dance”; encasing it in a rotating series of orbs during the brooding “Bad Romance”; and in her most twisted image, chaining her hair to a black pole controlled by two men in “Paparazzi.”

Despite a large cast of goth dancers, whose stiff legs and pale visages evoke a flailing army of the undead, Lady Gaga is frequently alone onstage, surrounded by ominous videos of giant red trees or wild animals. Wearing a suit of Christmas lights, her feet jammed into teetering heels, she first appears moving mechanically behind a pulsating green video grid that blankets the front of the stage.

It’s an unusual entrance for a pop star, since Lady Gaga doesn’t show up in a blinding spotlight, but indistinctly and lost in an electric maze. The effect extravagantly juxtaposes the flights of fancy of a wandering mind with the physical limits of the body.

Midway through the show, the emotional narrative shifts when this flamboyant star, alone onstage, pauses to deliver a short monologue. Skillfully transforming into an insecure teenager racked with angst, she bashfully flops on the ground and, in the plaintive voice of a performer hooked on applause, asks the audience if she looks sexy. Quickly shifting back to her superstar persona, she underlines the artifice of this plea, adding self-consciously, “I hate the truth.”

In her next few songs Lady Gaga becomes increasingly aggressive and defiant, illustrating something of a love-hate relationship with her little monsters. Hunched over in an animalistic crouch, surrounded by a predatory-looking pack of dancers, she performs an angry version of her pounding song “Teeth,” as images of a ferocious wolf loom behind her. This driving song leads to a more downbeat, soulful spin on “Poker Face,” while she plays what could be described as a post-apocalyptic piano, a rusty jumble of seemingly collapsing parts that emits a purple fog.

Only a few songs after begging for approval, her mood darkens. The moment has come, as it does at the end of most slasher movies, when the scantily clad victim stops running and takes on the monster, fighting for survival.

Lady Gaga hoists a tommy gun out of the piano and swings it toward the crowd. Smiling maniacally, she sprays her fans with “bullets,” the weapon flashing like a strobe light.

Geeks went into tizz when Lady GaGa, 23, showed up at Monster’s booth with rap mogul Dr. Dre to show off the “Heartbeats” headphones she designed for the company.

The $US119.95 jewel-shaped earbuds are designed to look more like a fashion accessory than a piece of technology. They are, according to Monster, “tangle free” and come in three colours – red, black and chrome.

Lady GaGa also hit the Polaroid stand to announce her appointment as “creative director” and “inventor of specialty products” with the company.

Wearing a black see-through dress and a blonde sunhat made entirely out of her own hair, she described herself as a “Polaroid girl” and said she was “outraged” when the company filed for bankruptcy in 2001.

She said she would be helping to update the company’s iconic instant film cameras for the digital age. Her new Polaroid products would be available this year but few further details were revealed.

“The Haus of Gaga has been developing prototypes in the vein of fashion/technology/photography innovation - blending the iconic history of Polaroid and instant film with the digital era,” she said.

“I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer, and to as my father puts it - finally have a real job.”

Lady GaGa insisted her involvement in product design went much further than simply endorsements and marketing campaigns, and posted a picture of herself on Twitter holding up her new Polaroid business card.

The partnership is designed to help Polaroid appeal to a younger demographic after its technology was rendered obsolete by digital cameras offering a more effective form of instant photo gratification.

On Thursday Lady Gaga unveiled one of her most outlandish styles to date: a blonde sunhat made entirely of her own hair, reports the U.K.'s Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old singer appeared in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show where Polaroid announced her as their new Chief Creative Officer. Lady Gaga said she will create fashion, technology and photography products.

The Grammy nominated songstress did not offer any specific products that were in the works, but she did talk about being a "Polaroid girl," reports MTV News.

"I really believe in the lifestyle and injecting the things that I love into [this]. ... For me, what I'm really excited about is bringing back the artistry and the nature of Polaroid," Lady Gaga told the hundreds of attendees who turned out to catch a glimpse of her.

The "Paparazzi" singer also said she was excited about bringing back Polaroid and "combining it with the digital era," according to USA Today.

Polaroid, the film company that offered instant gratification in a pre-digital age, filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and has since struggled to revitalize their brand. Lady Gaga said her new Polaroid products would be available later this year.

New techno popera queen Lady Gaga rocked The Pearl in the Palms for a second night, and again it was a sold-out performance of 2,500 frenzied fans, with hundreds more waiting in the casino in hopes of securing a ticket. There is no doubt that Lady Gaga is one of the hottest acts in the music business and up there at the top.

Unlike Thursday’s first show, Lady Gaga permitted leading lens lady Denise Truscello access for these four new concert photos. Palms owner George Maloof even posed with the diva this time around! Our colleague photographer Justin M. Bowen of the Las Vegas Sun also shot a photo gallery from last night’s performance.

George has been running her hit “Poker Face” as part of a new Palms advertising campaign on TV and the Internet. “We've never had a response like this to the spots in the eight-plus years we have been open,” he told me.

Vegas DeLuxe also covered Lady Gaga’s Thursday concert at The Pearl, and our Las Vegas Weekly colleague Joe Brown reviewed that concert. Lady Gaga said her two Las Vegas shows were the best of the Monster Ball Tour and that she’s looking forward to returning to Sin City for more shows.

“It’s hard to believe, but her second show was even more exciting than the first!" George said.

Kid Cudi, the rapper who departed from the tour last minute on Thursday morning, nonetheless hosted his party last night at Tao and Lavo in the sister Venetian and Palazzo, respectively. We’ll post that report with photos on Monday.

Lady Gaga and RedOne definitely have a good partnership going. The singer and the songwriter/producer collaborated on some of the biggest tracks of the year, earning five Grammy nominations this week.

And, RedOne says that their musical chemistry together was pretty immediate. "To be honest, Lady Gaga was always Lady Gaga," RedOne told MTV News about the electropop chanteuse, who gave her fans credit for her Grammy nods. "From the first day I met her she was that Lady Gaga, before she had a deal or anything. I always felt like she was a star from the first day."

Gaga, who recently released eight darker, edgier new songs on The Fame Monster, has always seemed to know what she wants, but she's managed to keep everyone else guessing what her next artistic move will be. "She has a vision already in her head, and you just have to meet her, 'cause she's talented and she doesn't need any directions from anybody," he said, crediting that resolve with their good working relationship. "It was a perfect match. When we went into the studio, it was just natural."

And as Gaga's rapidly gone from relative obscurity to worldwide fame, RedOne said she hasn't changed. Working with her now is exactly the same as in their early days together. "No, she didn't change. I felt like she's big. She's a superstar now, really superstar," he said, adding that in the studio it's "just natural easy fun, no over-thinking."

As for what the two will do next, RedOne isn't sharing. He wants to make sure no one ever knows what they will do next. "That I don't want to say because you always want to shock people," he explained. "And you don't want to let people know, so that when they hear it, [they go], 'Oh my God.' "

Miss Sometimes No-Pants went on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about her getups and fans, attempting to clear up some assumptions a lot of us have had about the bold, trendy, and "creative" singer.

Admitting that she had wanted to be like Boy George in high school, Lady Gaga said that it's all about the fans--and she's not faking.

"I didn't fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don't feel alone," she said.

"I want my fans to know that it's OK," she continued. "Sometimes in life you don't always feel like a winner, but that doesn't mean you're not a winner."

It's not just the fans that get Lady GaGa going, but her own family. She said that she wrote Speechless for her dad to implore him to get surgery (it worked), and now he's "doing better."

"I was on the road, and I was having a lot of trouble missing my parents and wanting to be with my dad," she said.

Lady GaGa has been booked to sing in front of the Queen in December. The dance electronica singer becomes the latest act confirmed to perform at 2009 Royal Variety Performance, joining previously-announced performers that include Bette Midler, Michael Buble, Miley Cyrus, Alexandra Burke and Mika.

"I really don't know if the Queen or Prince Philip have listened to Lady Gaga, or are familiar with her," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said of the singer who is known for her dramatic stage performances. "But the Royal Variety Performance is a well-known charitable event which they support, and they meet all the stars involved." It is unclear what song she will deliver during her performance.

2009 Royal Variety Performance will take place at Blackpool's Opera House on December 7 with comedian Peter Kay serving as the host. The annual show is held in aid of the Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund, whose patron is the Queen, and will see a performance from "Britain's Got Talent" winner Diversity, who nailed the gig as part of their prize for winning the TV talent show.

Here, Gaga exists in some futuristic world where women are placed in tight latex suits designed after Max’s wolf costume from Where the Wild Things Are, and are then forced to become Neutral Mask-wearing dance patrons for men with gold-plated chins, all (somehow) resulting in not only one of the most bizarre Gaga get-ups to date (what I shall affectionately call the “gold-studded crab pantaloon”), but also in the delightful reappearance of one of Gaga’s most notable fashion accessories: the “firework bra” (which she wears next to the charred corpse of a certain lover of indeterminable evilness [we think]).

All of these elaborate visuals, however, manage to distract us from a very simple truth about the lead single from The Fame Monster: it’s kind of ... bland. Although Gaga wisely re-teams with RedOne—the brilliant producer who engineered her #1 hits “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”—the sexy electro sheen that has become his trademark just doesn’t feel as powerful this time out, the chorus feeling like somewhat of a tired retread of the verses, the whole thing just lacking that extra spark that made her previous hits so guilty-pleasure cool. Instead, the song is best defined by its video, featuring slow-motion diamond drops, druggy supermodels, and one very turbulent use of fire as a way to get revenge on a certain man with a gold-plated chin.

So what does it all mean? Why does she bless herself at 3:18? Why is the dance choreography only partially in sync? Is there a “Thriller” homage mixed into those dance moves or is this just another excuse for Lady Gaga to wear the most weirdass outfits ever designed by mankind? It’s hard to say, but for the time being, why don’t you sit back, relax, and enjoy yet another Gaga-fueled visual assault that she does only too, too well.

The pop star Lady Gaga is just as well known for outrageous costumes as for her catchy tunes. So it's not too surprising that she's come out with a slightly outrageous pair of headphones as well.

Lady Gaga's headphones are called "Heartbeats" and with a triangular metallic shape, they look a bit like jewelry. Heartbeats are the latest artist-branded product in Monster Cable's Beats by Dr. Dre line.

Pop star Lady Gaga has lent her name to a set of attractive, but somewhat painful, earphones. Willa Plank reviews.

But in my tests, the headphones were more style than substance. The biggest problem was that the bulky triangular portion of the headphones – which look cool – were uncomfortable to wear.

The black headphones I purchased came with different earpiece sizes. The small earpiece was too small, and thus the triangular piece hurt my ears. The bigger earpiece was too big, and kept falling out of my ear.

The earbuds' maker, Monster Cable Products, originally supplied me with other sized earpieces not included with the product in stores, including three-flanged ones which fit my ear best. The company said it plans to include extra-small earpieces with the basic model I tested, and is considering including the three-flanged earpieces in the higher-end model coming out for the holidays.

Once I got the earbuds in my ear, the sound quality was impressive. But I didn't hear the club-quality bass beats the company touts as a feature. Even after following the company's advice to wear the earbuds correctly, including wearing the earbuds in the correct designated ear and pointing the ends away from my ear, I still couldn't perceive a difference. I listened to a couple of hip-hop and rap songs, and didn't hear a strong bass sound.

This is unlike the Beats by Dr. Dre Tour earbuds, which have a distinct thumping bass sound to them. But again, this could be because I didn't have the perfect fit with the Heartbeats eartips included with the product.

Pop star Lady Gaga generates plenty of buzz for her unusual outfits -- here's a few of her recent ones.

Still, the Heartbeats won points for its linguine-style cable, which prevented serious tangling, and for its noise-isolating qualities, which were better than standard iPod earphones but not as good as noise-cancelling headphones.

The packaging and the look of the earbuds is stylish. The carrying case for the earbuds is triangular, which of course matches the shape of the earbuds. The basic model I tested out also comes in three different colors including rose red, chrome and black.

The company plans to come out with two other models of the earbuds, including a haute couture ultra-high definition headphone with a crystal earpiece design for the holidays at a suggested retail price of $179.95.

For true Lady Gaga fans, the discomfort might be worth the price (currently $99.99 at Best Buy). But I wasn't gaga over these high-priced uncomfortable headphones.

But let's face it. While we love Lady Gaga's music and totally quirky personality, what we're really interested in is her fashion. What on Earth is Lady Gaga going to be wearing on this tour? The theme of monsters is certainly going to be an influence, as well as the theme of evolution and change. All week, gossip sites have been abuzz with rumors that two of the fiercest divas in the game — Beyoncé and Lady Gaga — had joined forces on a super-secret video for B's "Video Phone."

It was a fairly big deal, and accordingly there's been much quoting of "insider" sources and "my boy [who] worked as a stylist for [Gaga's] dancers," but no confirmation from any major contributor to the project — until now.

On Thursday (October 15), a spokesperson for director Hype Williams confirmed to MTV News that that both Beyoncé and Gaga appear in the "Video Phone" clip, which Williams shot last weekend in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.

Williams' spokesperson would not confirm any additional information about the "Video Phone" shoot, but, according to Life and Style magazine, security on set was extremely tight, and the video is shaping up to be a fashion bonanza, with Beyoncé wearing "a feathered dress" and Gaga sporting "something wild ... the fashion is sick and insane."

Mirroring the Life and Style report, another source posted on Pulse Music Board that the "Video Phone" clip was shot on a "closed set [with] no cameras or video phones" allowed. Apparently, the video version of the song — which is from Beyoncé's 2008 I Am ... Sasha Fierce album — features B and Gaga trading up-tempo verses, and sees Gaga adding an extra verse to the tune. The clip also features "lots of choreography" and "more dancers than the two girls [Beyoncé is] always with."

Is she or isn’t she a hermaphrodite? The Lady GaGa hermaphrodite rumors have persisted to the point that the Lady (or Lord) herself has addressed them in an Australian interview.

Stefani Germanotta, better known as Lady GaGa, has been hounded with rumors that she’s a hermaphrodite every since she performed at the Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom and people swear they saw a ‘peener’ dangling out from under her uber short mini-dress. She didn’t address the rumors and so they grew bigger and louder. One celebrity gossip blog published an alleged interview in which the Lady herself admitted she is ‘multiple gendered’ with both male and female genitalia.

The other day, Lady GaGa did an interview with an Australian radio show hosted by DJs, Meshel, Ash and Tim. She told them they could ask her anything so they did. Meshel jumped right in with the question on everybody’s mind (at least anyone who thinks of her at all), ‘Where are we at right now with the tiny penis issue, Lady Gaga?’ The Lady immediately claimed she wasn’t offended, but that her vagina is offended. Really, that’s what she said.

When another Aussie Radio show interviewed her under the same conditions, Matt and Jo, asked her out right if she’s a hermaphrodite. She replied she wanted to talk about music and found the whole penis talk beneath her, ‘It’s too low brow for me to even discuss.’

Lady Gaga’s life is like a far too long, played out high school play that was writen by the girl no one talked to who had a thing for old movies. The quality of her acting is fucking garbage and the storyline is weak…..

Her facial expressions and dramatic performance is like the time my highschool friend turned drag queen thought he got his period after convincing us he was pregnant for 3 months, something we all knew was impossible but didn’t want to upset him about and instead went along with it, cuz he was a little unstable. Only she looks more like a dude/ Marilyn Manson with that nose and weak chin than he did….

I hate her. Normally Lady Gaga isn’t one to cover up all her curves and hide this much skin, could it be that all that talk of her being a hermaphrodite is getting to the pop star? Or, it might just be the fact that she’s in Manila, a city known for being a bit more modest than the usual let-it-all-hang-out attitude of European and American cities.
Whatever the case, Lady Gaga was spotted wrapped head-to-toe in a bizarre army green leather fetish jacket and wacky black cone on her head. She’s in town to perform tonight (August 11) but as we all know already, everything she does is a performance.
